I've been looking for a project bike. I've been looking on Craigslist every day and it's very difficult to find anything. First, Topeka, KS seems to have very few cyclists. Also, I'm 6' 2" so most bikes are too small for me. Anyway, there was a vintage bike sale this weekend and I bought this 1981 Schwinn Sports Tourer.
This is one of the made in Taiwan Schwinns. I did a little research and I found out that the frame was made by Giant.
It needs the usual things, including new cables and tires. I'm also considering bull bars. I bought a second set of handle bars because I don't want to cut up the original bars, which appear to be in good condition.
Overall, this bike is in pretty good condition. It appears it was stored inside for its years.
I'm looking forward to this project and I'm starting today with cleaning and lubing everything.
