Bicycle Mechanics - Upgrade Groupset?

Hi, at the moment I have a Bianchi 928 C2C. This came with a full carbon frame and 105's with an FSA crank. I have done 4,200 ish miles on it and can't quite tune the rear gears correctly. I'm debating, whether after this milage, it's worth upgrading all the components to Ultegra SL (http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=1287&categoryId=159)

Is it worth it?

To answer the question you need to assess why the gears can not be tuned. Is the chain and/or cassette worn out? It would be a lot cheaper to replace a chain and cassette.

I have an ultegra groupo myself and my gf has 105. I really don't see the additional value of the ultegra components as I'm not weight obsessed.

I would find out why you can't get the gears setup first...

Properly tuned 105 > improperly tuned Ultegra (or DA for that matter).

(And after 4200 miles it is probably time for a new chain and cassette)

I think the derailleur has worn to be honest. I can get the high and low done but it's the changes in between. I've changed the cable, cleaned the housing etc but to no avail.

It is not worth it. Replacing the cable and cleaning the housing is an inadequate compromise - the housing wears more than the cable and has as much or more effect on the shifting.

A worn chain also affects shifting... the chain loses lateral rigidity when worn and you loose more of the side-force from the derailleur in the flex.

Good news, though! If you replace your chain and cassette, and you still think you need a whole new set of parts, you can use the new chain and cassette with all the other parts you buy.

at 42oomi I am with the chain and cassette crowd. maybe even a jockey and idler pulley too

New chain ordered. I've just put a new carbon 50 on it that has it's own cassette, so we'll see if that's the problem.
