confused with all the different types of randonneurs. which do you guys suggest for street riding?

Trail, Cross, Touring, Comfort and Hyper have different tread patterns. I kinda vaguely attempted to put them in order from gnar to smooth, but without seeing them all in person, I'm not sure if I got it right.

I guess I'd place the plain ol' Randonneurs in between Comfort and Hyper, perhaps.

I run this in the rear with a slick in the front.

Well, the trail and the cross might do OK on some cyclocross courses, where as the Hyper, on the other end of the scale would not corner well on dirt roads, or climb steep sections of dirt road either.

Hyper should be for paved road only, IMO. All the rest for varying degrees of mixed paved/dirt usage. That'll vary by what you like and what percentage of each surface type you're likely to encounter.

Of course the Original and the Touring will work fine on all paved all the time, just not quite as sweet as the Hyper.

i'll mostly be on the jacked streets of NYC. so, do you think the original would be best? would any of the tires on the linked site be ok for NYC streets? looking to pick some up at discounted prices!

Just get maxxis refuse tires and be all set. You see tons of bikes in NYC with them, I know a lot of messengers riding them, and I've got them on three bikes. I replace the rear eveyr 5 or 6 months and have had the same front tire on one bike for almost a year and a half (it has had some time off the road though).
