removing bottom bracket, using a tacx tool, the ones with the screw in, i can get the tool so far, but not as far as getting the key part of the tool, into the socket, it stops, as if the tool isnt long enough, just wandered if anyone had experience with using this tool, and knows where im going wrong.
Before the questions asked, yes I am sure it is the right tool for the right bracket, the female/male bits match:lol:

Sometimes it just isn't long enough. What BB and which tool do you have?

I have a tacx shimano m8(?) non octalink bottom bracket removal tool, and a shimano bottom bracket of unknown type, all i can say is that the spindle looks rather long, longer than i have had on other bikes, that i have looked at and worked on.
What would i do in this position? are there bb tools that are for longer spindles, or do i need something else? bit of a newbie in this area

The Tacx tool that bolts into the spindle just doesn't work with really long spindles. The Shimano TL-UN74S BB tool always works, so does the Park BBT-32.

Thanks for the information helicomatic, shame i didnt ask sooner, and could of saved money, but good to know which tools to use in order that i can carry out the removal, ive ordered a un74, makes sense that that one would always work as like the park it doesnt have anything in the middle, so doesnt matter how long the spindle is, my other bike a dawes galaxy, will be needing a full service soon, so will keep the tacx for that, prevents any possible damage to the decent bike.
Cheers
