Touring - Route info and suggestions

My SO and I are planning a tour in June, and would like some input about the route if anyone has been along this way before. Searched the net, but there seems to be hardly any info from a cycling point of view for most of it.

Leaving Flagstaff, AZ on Hwy 89N towards Page, AZ
Lee's Ferry, AZ to Jacob Lake, AZ on Hwy 89N
Jacob Lake, AZ to Kanab, UT on Hwy 89N
Kanab, UT to Panguitch, UT " " "
Panguitch, UT to Provo, UT
Provo, UT to Kamas, UT through Provo Canyon on Hwy 189 (this we did get some cycling info for)
Kamas, UT to Evanston, WY over the Uintas (really looking forward to this)
Evanston, WY to Garden City, UT at Bear Lake
Garden City, UT to Alpine, WY

Alpine, WY to Rexburg, ID through Swan Valley

++ Possible alternate route up the hogback through Jackson, WY, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone to Livingston, MT and then west toward Missoula. ++

Rexburg, ID to Salmon, ID
Salmon, ID to Missoula, MT through the Bitterroots.

We aren't sure whether we want to do the Grand Teton/Yellowstone bit yet because of the expense of it being a tourist/resort area (the trip will be almost all wild/campground camping and cooking out). Also, it looks difficult to get from Livingston to Helena/Butte and then to Missoula without traveling on interstate highways. Any info here appreciated.

We should be leaving around the first weekend in June, and expect to make Missoula / Sandpoint ish by mid-July. That's a very relaxed pace, and we intend on camping and hanging out in a few places along the way.

From there, we continue on through Thompson Falls, MT to Sandpoint, ID and Coeur d'Alene.

I've been through Northern Idaho and Western Montana several times, and am familiar with the mountains in Utah, as well as Yellowstone. We haven't been through these areas on a bike, however, and the route itself seems little traveled or - at least - little documented... anyone know why? Anything we need to watch out for?

I should mention that part of the purpose for this tour is to scout places out for possible relocation, as well as a much needed vacation while the kids spend the summer with the grandparents RVing and doing fun stuff.

Guess it depends on how you feel about the park, but personally Jackson Hole and Yellowstone would be a serious hassle in my mind. I grew up in the area, so my view may be quite different than others. That route from Livingston to Missoula would be interesting, but man that's long. I'd almost rather exit Yellowstone west back into Idaho and wander up from there.

Were you planning to take Hwy 28 from Rexburg up to Salmon? That's a long ride without many services, but you could camp anywhere you want. I'd love to do that ride. I remember driving down 28 at about 120mph in high school. There's ghost town near the summit, named Gilmore.

Thanks for the info... MT 200 between Helena and Missoula looks lovely, we'll just have to see what we feel like doing at that point... we are leaning more and more toward keeping west and away from Yellowstone and eastern Montana, and heading straight for Missoula. We know the route between Rexburg and Missoula is long and sparsely populated - that's one of the reason's we picked it. ;) I think the summer tourist season in Wyoming is just going to be too much... dodging RVs on the hogback, fighting for and paying for camping space... It would be beautiful, but worth it?

The parts that kind of concern us at the moment are:

Hwy 89N out of Kanab, through Panguitch, and up to Monroe - services/shoulders/traffic?
The ride from Kamas to Evanston - conditions on highway 150 in mid-late June?
The area around Bear Lake, UT - neither of us has ever been there
MT93/200 out of Missoula toward the Flathead - have heard that traffic on this road is obscenely dangerous. Any alternate route (even a dirt road) to Ravali so we can catch 200 west to Thompson Falls?

Okay, regarding Missoula to Thompson Falls, someone just suggested a possible alternate route over Ninemile Road out of Frenchtown to 135, hooking up with 200 at Paradise? Is this do-able with a loaded touring bike? Checked my map and the road isn't on it, but there are some mountains where it is supposed to be.

Doesn't look horrible, but doubtless it's steep near the top of the pass. Might be fun. 8-)
