Training & Nutrition - Got a good HRM Suggestion?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am looking to replace my HRM. I use a Polar (can't remember the model) that is 2 years old. Had it serviced last winter, so it should be in good shape, but, for no apparent reason, it will display amazingly high readings during an otherwise normal workout. I imagine it is either from interference or a poor connection (or my heart does really crazy bounces) but it is driving me nuts. I know I should chill, but I'm probably more Type A than I would admit. Anyway, anyone have a suggestion on a reliable, durable HRM that is not too expensive. The functions I mainly use are average, and high heart rate, and time in zone.
Thanks
steve
All HRMs are subject to this kind of interference from high power radios, transmitters, mobile phone towers, trams etc etc
Get used to it....coz you might spend $500 on a new HRM and have exactly the same thing happen. :)
G'day,
I have a polar 720I which cost way to much...when i commute i pass under high tension wires & the thing goes crazy.....HR, cadence, Speed, go off the map!.....you'll find that every 'wireless' unit will do the same. (but it makes me feel good to 'download' the info & see 'max speed 224kph...:0)....they can also be effected by things like loose clothing & the types of material. I have one particular jersey, (not sure what it's made of), that sends the HRM into spasms.....
cheers,
Hitchy

chain mail?
They look a bit naff, but I use the Mio hrm watch. Unlike the real time watches, you have to put two fingers on it to register a reading, but I've been using one for 2 yrs now, and to be honest, it eliminates the discomfort of a chest strap and the resulting interference problems. The Mio is also very accurate. I recently had a minor heart attack and while I was rigged up to the hospital monitor I had plenty of time to check my Mio and it was within a beat or two of the hospital machine. I can trust it's reading now.

Isn't this a bit hard on a climb or in a race?
