Touring - Favorite Shorts (or Liners) for Touring?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

For touring, I usually wear padded shorts as a liner under baggy nylon outer shorts. I like to wear baggy shorts so I'm more comfortable in towns, and I like using liners for the obvious reasons: less bulk for packing, less stuff to launder and less stuff to dry.

I've been using Andiamos (Andiamos at Amazon) (http://www.amazon.com/Andiamo-Mens-Padded-Skins-Black/dp/B001EVB2PG/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t) for the past few years, but their pads were pretty thin to start with, and by now they're quite worn and ready for replacement.

Before I buy new Andiamos, I was wondering you guys have other recommendations.

I see Canari (http://www.amazon.com/Canari-Mens-Padded-Cycle-Liner/product-reviews/B0019K2XMS/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_helpful?ie=UTF8&coliid=&showViewpoints=1&colid=&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending) and Pearl iZumi (http://www.amazon.com/Pearl-iZUMi-Elite-Versa-Cycling/dp/B001G0N9EM/ref=pd_sim_a_5) (Amazon links) both make liners as well, but I haven't tried either.

I've also considered just using regular underwear (perhaps wool?)...

Any particular favorites?

I don't like gel and the PI's look just like the Andiamos which I have 5 pair of and I love them for commuting that way I can wear regular pants at work and don't have to change into regular underwear at work. If they worked before why not keep using them. I bought a pair of the briefs fromREI and they suck. They are cut way narrow in the front they just feel weird and they ride up all around. REI is supposed to carry both the long and the briefs but they never seem to have the longer items so I order them online.

Just wear these under your baggy shorts. Or better yet just ride these and throw the shorts on when you get to town.

Shameless plug.. If you don't mind looking like an advert.. Follow my link and check out the closeout 09 Hammer bibs or shorts. They will run you around $30 each with discount if you've never ordered from them before. I have 4 sets of these bibs and they have been very nice. Made in the USA by Voler.
