Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Need opinions on building new wheelset

I'm building up a wheelset using some matte black H plus Son rims, and I've got a Miche rear hub coming tomorrow. I'm trying to decide what I want to do for the front wheel. I have a few avenues:

1) Lace to a matching Miche Primato front hub radially. Plus is that it would make a matching wheelset. Con is that these hubs are kind of heavy (not that these are really weight weenie rims though), and I'm not really sure they're worth $60 in my book.

2) Lace to a Ultegra or 105 road hub radially. This wouldn't match but it would be a bit lighter, though not as much as if I had gotten a 24 hole front rim too. Seems like a good idea but it probably won't make much difference. It would also be slightly less expensive, and perhaps have better bearings than Miche.

3) Lace to a disc MTB front hub 3 cross. This would be the heaviest option, BUT... I could always switch out the axle hardware and use it as a rear wheel with a bolt on cog! It would even look pretty cool if I had a cog mounted while using it as a front wheel. The only thing I don't like about this is that I really want my track bike to be set up like a legit track bike and not a "fixie". I've got my road bike for looking ridiculous.

Thoughts?

A hub is a hub amirite? If the bearings die they're replaceable.

my thought is that if you are concerned about the weight difference between front hubs then you shouldn't have bought H+son rims. i'd go with the matching miche front.

Scoop up a cheap Ultegra 6600 front hub. Cheaper than Miche, nicer and lighter than 105. On the other hand, we can't be talking much more than 100g, and matching hubs are nice aesthetically.

I am running a bolt-on cog on my Rig, but that's only because it already had a disc wheelset. It really is a great idea - beats traditional fixed hubs in every way except ease of changing cogs and the inability to run lower than 15t cogs.

I guess I vote for the road hub, whichever one you end up choosing.

but it doesnt look like a neato tarck build either..

Go for an Ultegra, even a Tiagra.
I use a Tiagra 4500 and it is very smooth and light.

difference between ultegra and 105 front hub is like... 10g I think.

How about a Novatec road front hub? only 70g, which is even less than Dura-Ace.
you can get one from bdop. only problem is they only come in 20, 24, 28 drilling. no 32h

from what I can understand of your post, you have a 28h rim for the front?
105 and LX, XT hubs don't come in 28h, only ultegra, DA and XTR do.
with XTR and a lot of other makers, you can't swap the axle to make it into a rear wheel.

I feel like te matching high flange hub thing is usually just done for style...it makes sense to go with a low flange, light front hub I think. Any recommendations for something instead of Ultegra? Also, Formation Face rims aren't really all that heavy, 550-600 grams each. Thats lighter than Velocity Deep-V, at least.

as long as you don't have a 32h or 36h rim, this hub is around 80g.

having a bit of extra weight at the center of rotation (hubs) isn't going to be nearly as noticeable as having a heavy rim (which you do). If you are at all concerned with weight, then you should get light rims and butted spokes.

I would just get the matching Miche hub if I were you. Also, high flange front hubs aren't just for style. They have a purpose on the track.

that's a good price, but if it's a 32h, then a tiagra hub will be cheaper and weigh the same 150g.

tiagra, 105 and ultegra hubs, all weigh the same. Front 150g, rear 350g.

Well of course I'm getting double butted spokes, but that's more for the quality of the build than weight.

If I can find a good deal on a good road hub, I think I'll take it. I might be able to get a deal on the Miche hub through my LBS though, I'll have to see!

btw, my rims are 28 hole. I wanted to do 24 hole but I couldn't find (affordable) track hubs in that drilling.
