A welcome to the forum from Florida.
I've been biking off and on as a secondary mode of transportation for most of the last decade. My main ride has been a mid 90's Trek 830. It came into my hands with original Suntour brakes, and most of its paint job in '98. I've nursed it through a long degree on two large colleges as an all around beater. Now mostly converted to XT components (I love the old cantilevers!) with only the seat tube and front derailer as original. I've put about 8k miles on the frame in the 12 years I've known it. A few road bikes (Giants) have came and gone through my garage, but never seem to stick with me like this one has.
As part of making a job switch, I'm going to work toward commuting with bike as my main transportation. I figure the change of pace (and work load) will make the move from motorbike to pedal bike a bit easier. That, and some better physical fitness and organization (it rains, or is hot, or is hot and raining. ;) )
I look forward to learning how you guys manage to make the ride work.
