My wife and I ( age range 50 ) want to buy bikes to putt around town on. Were not looking to ride trails, or doany cross country riding, just around the neighborhood, around the lke or on the beach. She ordered an Electra "Rosie" Cruiser bike. For me, I have been looking at Cruisers and Townies. I met a guy same age as me and he nd his wife are dong the same type of riding we want to do. He bought a Nirve Switchblade and said he loves it. He suggested Electra's Jeremey or a Switchblade like his. Those look cool, but how comfortable are they ? Do you think I'd be better off with a standard Townie or Cruiser?
Thanks.

I think you would like the layout of the Townie with the pedals set forward. You get a good leg extension while pedaling but you can still put you foot to the ground when stopped.

I wouldnt advise a single speed like the Switchblade. Although you dont want to spend all your time changing gears, it will be a lot easier if you can select a gear that is suitable for the occasion.

I'd suggest riding something similar to what your wife is riding if you want to continue to have a riding partner. If it's a little uncomfortable, you'll both have the same level of comfort so you'll have similar tolerance for riding times. Also, it will bee geared the same and have similar rolling resistance, so you won't have an equipment advantage as far as efficiency goes. If you find it easier to ride than she does, she'll be struggling to keep up with you or you'll be frustrated to stay with her, and neither of you will enjoy the riding experience together. I'm not saying that what you are considering in the Jeremy won't be comfortable, but you want to be riding similar posture, tires size, and gearing as your wife in my opinion.
