Touring - Bianchi Nyala as touring bike?

so i have someone offering to trade me a stock Bianchi Nyala for my bass guitar (for which i paid about $100). it's in good shape, just looks like your basic old-school MTB. i normally ride a road bike (schwinn worldsport and a dawes lightning sport), but was considering picking this up as a touring project. do you think this would be a better candidate than the worldsport? i was thinking a heavier frame and wider tires would be an advantage, but there is the weight drawback.. suggestions?

Might work.. I did a google and it looks like it was available as a rigid mountain bike. I also found some that showed suspension front forks. If it's the rigid one I'd imagine it could work. Couldn't figure out the gearing or much else. Very little information to be found on the nets.

We need more information... such as, what model of bass guitar, and are you a music-head? Pictures, please! (No, this isn't the first guitar-for-bike-swap thread we've seen, and guitar pron is nearly as good as bike pron.)

you could definitely put me in the music-head category, probably even more so than the cycle-head category, though it's a close call. (if anyone's in western NC, come see us at the Bacchus Bistro in Marshall this friday!) the bass is a Dean EVO that i converted to a fretless. it's really fun to play, but i'm a fiddle player and this bass just sits in my bedroom collecting dust.

the Dawes is a light frame and though it has eyelets on the stays, it doesn't seem to be built for an added load. i'd also like to keep it light so that i can ride fast when i'm just going into town or for a cruise. i'm in Asheville now and i'd really like something i can attach my camping gear to and not have to baby quite so much. the Worldsport i picked up for free a couple weeks ago. it's not in bad condition visually, but it sure needs some help as it tends to shift on its own.
