So I decided to start playing polo and built myself a polo bike... I had come across an old GT outpost mountain bike frame ($15). I had some extra 700s laying around and long reach callipers that worked. So I put it together, made it single speed and have yet to stop riding it... I have ridden mountain bikes before but this feels different. I cant explain why... Anyway Im kinda hooked and am wanting to upgrade now, though I do love the GT.

So I was wondering if anyone else has done this or something like this and discovered a new fun bike?

Ill post some pictures tomorrow when its light out...

never played polo but do have a old mtb converted to ss and am loving the heck outta the thing. Kept the 26" wheels tho, just put balloons on em...urban assaults are now its specialty.

I like my outpost. It was going to be just a beater to get me by for a while, but really ended up liking it a lot. Haven't tried polo yet but it seems really fun. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing another outpost on this forum.

I'm digging all the GT Outpost action here! I love my old (!) Outpost - I'm pretty sure it weighs around 80 pounds. Might be time to convert it - coma, your photo is definitely inspiring!

i'm interested to see how a frame made for 26" wheels, with 700c wheels, fits together with long reach calipers...

Just got my first singlespeed / fixie. Singlespeed feels so different to just riding a geared bike in one gear - it feels really good. I have been trying riding fixed and that is different again, but again it feels really good.

I can see myself really enjoying riding fixed, but I reckon I'll eventually get a 3 speed fixed hub, just so I can vary my ratio mid-ride.

This bike is just a beater that I can lock up without worrying about it, but I think I'm going to get another one :D

Sorry for the delay... Long day... Anyway here are the pics... I cut off the u-brake posts in the back so I could put on some old school road, long reach center pull/ u-brakes and then just some long reach road side pulls in the front... I cant lock both wheels up with these brakes. Locking the back and skidding is **** tons of fun... I have my egg beaters on it at the moment as this has been way too fun to ride... And yes that is a chain wrapped around the seat tube/ seat stays. this is my polo bike and so I have set up a dingle speed... The bars are off one of my 16" kids bikes and the levers are v brake levers which helps all this work... I have a half link in both chains to get them to fit as the drop outs are a little short, and as you can see while in my commute gear there is a bit of slack...

Thanks bleedingapple and herbsandspices, I appreciate it! Since that picture I have angled the bullhorns down a bit to so they're way more comfy and look less antenna-like. Still haven't replaced the saddle yet. It's torn but still feels ok so I'm not in much hurry!
I really like the way the 700s look on the outpost. I was wondering if they would fit when I was building mine up - guess I'll have to start saving up some money!

That's awesome -- nice job and very resourceful. I'd never even considered trying to pop a 700c in a mountain frame (probably b/c I'm a fender junkie), and I really dig the caliper workaround. For what it's worth, that chain tension looks perfectly fine to me.
