Long time moocher, first time poster. I'm a bike commuter from New Rochelle to White Plains. I like doing rides to the Brooklyn Bridge on the weekend, and i'm preparing myself for a few bike tours this summer. I ride a Bianchi Imola and converting an old trek to a three speed, although I would really like to convince my girlfriend that we'd make a great tandem. Hello!

Cheers and welcome to Bike Forums!

Tandems have their pros and cons... I have no personal experience on riding a tandem, but my other hobby is kayaking, and there are similar issues there. Having a double seated kayak is a great way to even out differences in paddling strength and experience, but you do lose something in the freedom aspect. Whether it's worth it or not is highly subjective of course. You could visit the Tandem forum, those people speak from their own experience.
