Bicycle Mechanics - Steerer threading in NYC?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Looking for a shop or machinist that would be willing to cut down a steerer and thread it for me. Any ideas?

Is it already a threaded steerer you need shortened and have the threads extended or a threadless steerer you want to thread from scratch?
If the later, you will have trouble finding any shop that will take on this project. There was an extensive thread on just this topic a couple of days ago so a search or scroll through the last few pages should find it.
I'll do it for you. I'm in Mount Vernon, just a short walk from Metro North or a longer walk from the White Plains Road Subway terminus. Email me your phone number at info@"the website under my signature" if you're interested & I call to discuss.

What size?
Length or diameter? I don't have it on me at the moment, so I can't measure it. It's 30 years old, so I assume it's a 1". It's really long, so have to thread/cut about 8 inches, I think.

OK. based on that, I'll also assume it's already a threaded steerer so extending the threads isn't a big problem. Just check to be sure the steerer isn't "butted" so the ID will be wrong further down.
FBinNY has made a generous offer and he will certainly be able to tell if the steerer is suitable.
