Because of frame space limitations I cannot run built-up tires like Marathon Plus.

So I'm going to try the tire liners--Mr Tuffy or StopFlats.

From what I've read, they seem about the same. Is one brand preferable?

And the REAL question: for 28mm tires there are 2 sizes under consideration:

size orange supposedly fits 25mm tire OR
size red supposedly fits 28-35mm

my concern with the red is that if it fits a 35, it's really way too wide and hard to install and possibly harmful to the tire on a 28.

in other words, they really don't make one with a 28mm in mind, so is it better to be 3mm too narrow or 7mm too wide?

Are you running 28's or 25's?
If you are currently running a 700x28 I don't see the problem with running a different 700x28 in your frame, what do you mean by "built-up" tire when referring to the marathon? I run 28 conti's in my SR300 Cannondale, they are tight in the fork but after about 1000 miles I can swap the front and back and have plenty of room in the fork, until then I just go with a little less air.

I wouldn't use tire liners this small, i would recommend a different tire. I run Michelin City's, they are offered in a 700x28 (I run 32's) but I haven't had one flat with them.

Are you getting glass or debris in your tires and that is why you are considering liners?

I run 700 x 28 Forte GT2/K tires with thorn-resistant tubes on my commuter. That combo has eliminated flats for a year and a half.

That is good to know , I just got the same setup,, have not put both of em on yet...they are labeled28's but seem to run narrower,( about 23) or so... however,,hope they work as well as your's...
