Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Took the skull cap out for it's virgin ride...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Well, I got up this morning and took the helmet out for it's virginal ride. I must admit that it's not that bad. However I must admit it was a sunrise ride so it also wasn't too hot. But it was good, so I'll probably keep on wearing it even on solo rides.

FYI, skullcap has a different meaning from a helmet in cycling, one of those thin headcovers that one wears under the helmet to absorb sweat and/or protect the scalp from sun.
Often, a helmet offers protection from the heat of the sun. My wife was shocked when i suggested that she wear a light color in the hot sun. Protects her from direct sun beating on her head, she's actully done much better avoiding heat exhaustion with the helmet. So being hot, the helmet isn't always a bother and the models with plentiful vents really makes a difference too.:D

I always wear a helmet; and usually wear a skull cap. The helmet isn't any hotter than going without, as it is a good one with lots of air flow. The skull cap keeps the sweat out of the eyes.
I ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!!!

I think the main secret to always ensuring you wear your helmet is find one that fits you properly and comfortably, and that you like to look at. I prefer the skateboard style helmets. Others may prefer the more aerodynamic race helmets while others like the kind that resemble polo helmets. Luckily they all come in loads of different colours and graphics so a person is bound to find a pleasing style. If not, get a plain one and decorate it.
Whatever encourages a person to wear the helmet on every bike ride. That way your brains have a better chance of getting home unscrambled.
I know, a skull cap is the nylon equivelent of a tuque. But it sounds cooler then helmet! hee hee. I stand corrected on the misuse of language!

I always wear my helmet. It is actually COOLER on hot days, the vents kinda work like a trans-am's ram-air and force air across your head, I think faster than without a helmet.
Oh, and the whole protection thing ;)
I even bought my girlfriend a helmet this year. We were at the bike shop, and I was asking her if she would like fenders (for her Trek 7100WSD) and she was iffy, and looked at some clearance helmets, and I told her She could pick between helmet and fenders...she kinda wanted a helmet more, and found one she really liked that fit her VERY well...I really appreciated the effort the bike companies and accessory companies have put into making Women Specific bikes and parts, I think it helps bring more women into the sport :)
And yes, she even liked wearing it on our first ride this year. She mentioned she felt a little safer with it!
