Bicycle Mechanics - How tight/loose should newly installed speedplay cleats be?

I just installed a new set of Speedplay Light Actions. The directions for attaching the cleats to my shoes were adamant that the mounting screws should not be too tight or else the cleats won't clip in properly. The problem is that I've got them at a point where I can clip in and out, but the entire clip mechanism (not the mounting bracket) slides left to right with very little effort. Is this correct? It doesn't seem right, but I don't want to tighten the screws too much and mess the whole thing up.

The spring will have too much friction and be difficult to engage. Use lots of blue locktite on
all screws.
If there is an adapter plate between the cleat and the shoe be sure it is fastened tightly to the shoe with blue locktite.
The X series seem to be less trouble than the light actions.

IMO, too tight is better than too loose.
after tightening, try clipping in and rotating your foot.
If it's really difficult to rotate, then it's too tight
if there's minor resistance, but otherwise rotates, then it's about right.
