I'm pretty new to cycling. I recently decided to get back into the sport, specifically Mountain Biking. After lots and lots of research on getting a good entry level Mountain bike, on April 2nd, I got a 2010 Specialized HardRock Sport Disc 29er. This bike has been a true pleasure for XC riding. I'm fortunate that I live in one of the best cities in the country for cycling - Colorado Springs. I've done quite a bit of XC riding as there are a lot of trails and mountains here very near by.

But a funny thing happened -- I've found myself also wanting to do urban/commuting/road-biking as well. I've tried to shoe-horn this new-found desire with my mountain-bike, but I have scoliosis and my Hardrock mountain-bike is not really suited for long distance riding with lots of elevation changes (it's a pretty heavy bike). With my scoliosis, anything longer than an hour starts to be painful and more difficult.

That meant I got to do more research, but this time for a road-bike. With my scoliosis, comfort was really high on the priority list. After test-driving a few bikes and reading countless reviews from many different sites, I decided to get a Marin Fairfax (20.5"). It seems to be a pretty good entry level road-bike.

So, here I am - a newbie who has purchased two bikes now in 6 weeks to help cure my insatiable desire for cycling. :)

funny! I am a new rider too. Bought two bikes also! One being a Specialized Hardrock, the other a Specialized Sequoia Elite - a road bike. I'm finding myself riding to work - round trip about 24 miles. I do that about 4 days per week. Twice a week I bike Fryman Canyon here in LA. It's really fun, however, I've become somewhat obsessed. Not sure why, but it beats gambling! Congrats on your new passion!

Haha that's a little uncanny! :) my commute to work is 27 miles - pretty close to your commute!

I agree with you 100%! It's very addicting!

I bought two bikes within the last month. Both are folders, Downtube mini and Giant Tallerway. Both of them fit easily in my Civic.
