A friend of mine sent me this:

Guy,
I was considering doing a Triathlon Sprint this summer, and I was in search of a road bike. I like to spend less than $800. I found this bike online, what do you think of it? I just like the price isn't too high and it looks cool. Take a peek when you're bored.

OK…First I told him that he had to know what size bike he needs and really should ride the bike and see how it feels. I know I rode at 7 bikes before I purchased mine. Having said that, all you Tri-Athletes out there can you give him some advice? BTW he is a certified personal trainer and certified spin instructor and in great shape. Comments on his bike choice appreciated.

Bang for buck he probably won't do better on new equipment. But you already pointed out one of the two biggest problems: fitting a bike he hasn't ridden. The other is getting is set up right. If he can't do it himself he need to have a good friend that can or else give up a good chunk of what he saved on the bike to a have the LBS tune up a new bike.

only thing i would say is check craigslist, remember that is just a road bike with aerobars, so you could try with a budget of $700 and then get some aerobars yourself.

I say go for it.....For a tri frame go smaller than you would for a Road bike . the groupo is fine the rear der. is great. nice cranks, go for it you got a great deal.....
