Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Need information on a Falcon

Hi all,

I was wandering through a yard sale in my neighborhood today and ran across this bike. I enjoy riding but don't know much about vintage bikes, but thought it looked nice and could be fun to restore or maybe just sell to someone who appreciated it. What really caught my eyes was it had a brooks saddle, campy, really nice looking lugs, and a nice head badge. On the rear stay it says designed by Eddie Clements San Remo. Could anyone give me more information, as to year, history, and value? Thanks.

Thats a great score. I am not knowledgable about individual Falcon models, someone else will be. For the rest of us, a picture of the decal showing what the frame is made out of (Reynolds 531 for example), and a closeup of the rear derailleur, front derailleur and crankset are helpful. Campy made a lot of different grades of components, some are average, some are outstanding, and some in between. Yours probably has pretty good ones, but even if the bike originally came with top end stuff, nothing prevented the prior owner from swapping out parts in the past and installing lower grade components.

Again, overall, I would call this a great score!!

I saw some pics of a serial number underneath the BB but there is none on this bike. Once again I appreciate greatly all the help!

Based on the 531 it is certainly a nice frame. I can't help you with the campy parts but plenty of people should be able to. Cottered crank suggests it's definitely pre 80's. If you look around on the campy parts there is often a date code stamped on them. Some of the parts will say "Patent" and the year, others will use a shape and a letter or number. If there's a diamond, this usually denotes it's from the 70's. Take a look inside the cage of the front and rear derailleurs and the back of the calipers. Cheers

I know at the latest it is 1972. The lady I bought it from says her husband bought it as a present for her that year, she said it was used but didn't know by who or how long. I figure the model is either a 80,90, or 94. I didn't see any dates on the campy parts but I will check again when I take everything apart or cleaning. If anyone has anymore info I would be truly grateful.

I was cleaning the bike today and found the serial #. It is X5399. (or maybe X5390 the last digit is tough to see) I am going abut replacing the bar tape with black cloth and putting a set of tubular tires on. I was still hoping someone might be able to give me a better idea of exact year and worth. Thanks!
