Hi all -
I live in DC and have been riding in the DC area for the past 5 or so years. I'm mostly a weekend warrior I guess, riding on the Capital Crescent loop, down to Mt. Vernon on the Mt. Vernon Trail, and out to the end of Beach Drive and back. Lately I've started training on Tilden in Rock Creek park (a relatively long, steep hill here in DC) to build up my leg strength.
A friend's been trying to get me into racing for sometime b/c he says I'm a strong climber and pretty fast. I haven't gotten around to that yet but am interested in the idea. I tend to ride around 20 or 21 on flats when I'm by myself, when I'm in decent shape, but really only ride about 30 or so miles in a week on the one long ride I'll do on the weekends. I need to ride a lot more, I know it....
I've got a Colnago Master X Lite bike from the late 1990's that I like to ride, and a beater bike I like to ride in the city, an early 1990's Specialized Sirrus. I've ridden a Lemond Zurich, a Torelli Countach, and Specialized Allez - all used, late 1990's - early 2000's.
I'm interested in swapping out the chain ring from the Sirrus and will be posting to the bicycle mechanics section here on the forum, and also interested in doing some touring in the near future. I've looked into the Potomac Peddlers but haven't yet done anything with them. Suggestions on getting into touring of all kinds (weekend, weeklong, month, etc) appreciated.
Thanks!
