That seems to be only for your ABC channel 7. The national listings don't mention it being on...

Where are the best places to watch the race from? Is there a map of the course available anywhere? Thx.

I'll be there with the whole family. (Believe it or not, my two teenage daughters are really excited about going again this year.) If we don't end up as course marshals then we'll be viewing the race from the Fillmore St. hill.

Go Webcor Men and Ladies!!!!!

Too many people on the Taylor and Fillmore hills. There are lots of sections that have very few spectators, and you can stand right on the curb and take excellent pics. We usually walk around quite a bit, seeing different parts of the race. What sucks is that BART doesn't leave Fremont until almost 8:00 AM, meaning we might make it to see the finish of the women's race.

We'll be watching the women's race too so I don't think we'll have a problem. Remember to bring your cow bells and thundersticks! The noise and energy from the crowd on these two hills is awesome!

I guess we'll have to bring our cowbells from last year. Saturn gave them away before. I wonder if anyone else will take their place? BART won't get us to "The City" until almost 9:00 AM.

This will be my first year going. Is it wise to bring my bike so I can go to different spots on the course or is it hassle because of the crowds?

SteveE

I think that only that start/finish line and KOM (Fillmore St., Taylor St.) points will be very crowded. As long as you keep your bike close at hand you're probably OK. It'd be a good way to see different areas on the course, I'd suspect.

I've watched the SF Grand Prix the past 2 years and it is definitely quite an experience. The first year I attended I was lucky enough to be less than a foot from where SF Postal was staging prior to the team announcements.

Might be a hot day, might need a jacket. I bring my cycling layered stuff in my Camelbak M.U.L.E. without the bladder in there. Don't forget sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat.

I'll be there in the Postal VIP tent. I do like to get out and walk around the course though. I do agree that Fillmore and Taylor are very crowded. You have to get there real early. When I went in 2001 I arrived at Fillmore at 6:30 and was too late to get a very good spot. The race started earlier that year. There are other great spots to see the race. The course is so big that I get bored staying in one spot. It's really cool to be able to walk the course and just about any bar or store that you pop your head into the race is live on television.

C'mon Bay Area folks, aren't you going to root for the local team --- Webcor? With the exception of Chris Horner and Charles Dionne, they all live in the Bay Area.

What color jerseys/bibs do they wear? I may have seen them training the last couple of weekends.

I can't wait for next weekend when the T-Mobile International comes here! I had so much fun during the past few years watching the race up close. I've found that it's pretty much impossible to follow the race when you're on ground level -- you gotta be watching the race coverage on TV or have a hand-held one with you to follow the subtleties of the race. But boy, it's fun to hop from one part of town to another just to see the peloton whizz by!

Last year, I went out on my usual Saturday ride the day before the race and I ran into the T-Mobile and Vini-Caldirola boys out in Sausalito on their practice rides! They looked kind of lost, but it was awesome!

I see from this year's start list that there are a real mix of interesting racers. I'm rooting for one of the Postal boys, but I think it's going to go to one of the domestic teams as before. Magnus Backstedt from Alessio-Bianchi is going to be here. The guy is a huge 98 kg (216 lbs)! I'm gonna be training my camera lens on him! :)

So are they contenders or what?Let's see --- Chris Horner won last year, Charles Dionne the year before that, Ted Huang snagged 12th last year. On the women's side, I'd think that Christine Thorburn would be a contender.

I should add that Justin England, who also lives in the Bay Area and is on the Webcor team, won the 2004 Mt. Washington Hillclimb a few weeks ago,

Damn I'm gonna have to start looking for a set of platform pedals for this event. ;)

I'm gonna go with my girl (who didn't attend last year). I was a volunteer last year but I couldn't get around freely, so I won't volunteer again this year.

If you're driving, the trick is to get there around 4 or 5am and park in parking lots that are inside the course--they're usually "closed", or unattended, so that means FREE PARKING.

We'll be taking the earliest Caltrain up, so I'm sure the bike car will be crowded.

Hope to see your crew there SteveE!!! I'll have my yellow bike with me.

Go Webcor!!

Oh and as far as weather goes, last year it was COLD as feck in the morning, but started warming up around 9am or so, enuf for u not to need extra clothing. Then it started getting windy.

I say bring a set of arm warmers if u got em, just in case.

What can I say? Weather sucks in SF.
