Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Is the weight difference between Deep Vs and B43s that drastic?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

People say that B43s are boat anchors and are way heavier than Deep Vs but a pair of B43s are just a pound more than a pair of Deep Vs. Unless everything on your bike is super light, wouldn't this be a negligible difference?
from what I've read a lb off the wheels is like two off of your bike.

It's rotational mass. A pound may not seem that much but thats a pound more that your legs directly have to turn and directly have to stop. It would definetly be a huge noticiable diffrence.
either one is a boat anchor!

Check out the HplusSons. They're almost as deep and lighter!

This is true. If light if job #1, neither is a very good choice. That said, a pound is a "big deal" in terms of rim weight. The question is is rim weight itself a big deal to you? Both are strong rims, and perfectly rideable, and there's nothing wrong with either. They just aren't light.

because this 1 pound is going to matter while you're actually just riding around and commuting, or shouldering your bike up a couple flights of stairs?
a pound on the wheel is more to spin up and more inertia to stop....IMO it will be more noticeable when you try to stop

Because they are; and I happen to own 2 sets

+1 momentum is the word

QFT; those are doubled walled (which is stronger than you need unless you tarck) while the B43's are triple and were created with bicycle polo in mind

Let's just say that the B43s are ******** strong when built right. Dear God. They are quite a bit heavier however. I could definitely feel the difference after I changed my rear Miche Pistard (a relatively deep double wall, similar to a deep V) to a B43. Accelerating was noticeably more difficult. You get used to it though.

1mm shallower... For all intents and purposes they're the same depth. If you're riding brakeless I think they look a lot better, you can get them without a parallel braking surface. The V extends all the way to the edge.
