Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Peugeot PH-10 conversion advice?

Hello.

I recently purchased what I believe is a 1984 Peugeot PH 10L off of CL for $75. Discounting whether or not that was a good deal, I am deliberating whether to go through with full fixie conversion or restore to 80's 12 speed glory.

This bike did not come with wheels. I bought everything but the wheels. which did not exist. Do I build up 12speed wheelset and keep components as is (simplex) or strip down and build a fixie wheelset. I believe this takes 27" wheels although I was able to jam in a 700c in front. Also unsure about the threading. Could this be an issue when buying new cranks, etc.?

Would appreciate any advice.

Peugeot conversions are beautiful. :)
80s Peugeots are English threaded, so you won't have trouble buying new cranks. I'd go for a conversion if I had a Peugeot frame but it's up to you.
700c wheels will work fine on the bike, you might have to get longer reach brake set though.

He is correct on every account. I have a Peugeot, but mine is a 70's which is french thread. You will have no problem with threading. As for breaks, yes you will have to get a long reach brake. I have a Tektro R556 which fits very well.

One more note,

I recently came into a Shimano 600 "arabesque" groupo. If I slapped these on the Peugeot I would just get a new wheelset and perhaps a brooks saddle. If I convert to fixed I need wheels, crank, and brake.

I would like a fixed gear bike as I've enjoyed riding them in the past, but cannot deny the elegance of these components on a classic frame, something I could perhaps use to bike to Rhode Island (I am in Boston) or some such local.

I'm sure many people have been through this dilemma before, thoughts?

edit: I should ad that I plan on using this bike mostly for commuting in flat urban area. Long distance is a fantasy "manifest destiny."

So what is your question exactly?

The only real problem would be the taper of your bottom bracket and the crank. And also the reach of the brakes. You might want to get a larger tooth size cog because the outer ring of that crank has many teeth.
