Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Has anyone found an alternative rack that would work with a Burley Kazoo (I believe the Piccolo uses the same "Moose" rack)? We had a fire in our apartment; the Kazoo was close to the door and furthest from the blaze, so was saved when the firemen tossed it out to get through the door. However, the rack was on my (newly renovated {sob**) 74" Raleigh International, which was totally destroyed. I see now they have gone out of production, and I can't seem to find a Moose rack anywhere. Has anyone found an alternative rack that works with these tag-a-longs. (Or, alternatively, would someone who had a extra rack for their second bike, and whose kids have outgrown the Kazoo/Piccolo, willing to sell the extra rack?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a great tag-a-long, and would hate to have to go buy a new one for want of a rack.

Thanks!

Try contacting Burley directly, or talk to a local welder about building you a replacement rack. The Burley trailer bikes are worth it.

I saw one on ebay not too long ago. Also try searching all the craigslists using crazedlist.org on firefox. If you find one on craigslist, you could probably talk someone into shipping.

I built a device to let me use the Piccolo on other (very strong) racks.

Basically it was a 6" square of steel (but you could use aluminum) with a threaded coupler in the middle (I forget the size of the bolt on the Piccolo knob) and to the sides were two steel drawer pulls that the latches went over. On the bottom, two pieces of aluminum flat bar went under the width of the rack. If the rack had a solid plate on top I had to drill a hole for the bolt on the bottom side of the threaded coupler.

If I recall correctly the bolt on the Piccolo knob was metric, and I had to special order a coupler from McMaster or MrMetric, but it was so long ago that I really can't remember.

Here's a diagram of it: "http://i50.tinypic.com/21j0mds.jpg". I built two of them so I didn't have to keep moving the Burley rack around, or buy more Burley racks.

Again, use this only on a strong rear rack, preferably that has triple struts.

Burley has just started making Moose Racks again for Piccolo and Kazoo. :) You can buy them directly from the Burley website and I think some shops are starting to stock them again. We got a cheap Piccolo off Craigslist (without a moose rack) and I was desperately searching for one, and then suddenly the Burley site popped again and they're in stock and ship fast!!

Enjoy,
Davidah

The Burley rack mount only works with the Burley TAB.
