Is anyone aware of a link to a walkthrough, building a road bike from parts? I would like to do this myself, but obviously never done it. Being handy, and having built many BMX bikes as a kid, I think I could do it, and would enjoy it, but I'd like to have a guide with pictures to refer to.

They aren't complete walkthrough's per se, but:

a) Sheldon Brown has an excellent article on the art of cable routing at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cables.html. There are tons of pages on his web site concerning the adjustment, etc. of derailleurs and brakes, but the cables one that I linked above is a must read.

b) Park Tool's official site has a guide on how to adjust / install just about anything at: http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/FAQindex.shtml
