Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - A couple of bikes...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm recycling this thread for another question on a bike which I think is a really good deal but i just want to make sure before I make the 2 hour drive. I know Doral is one of Miele's low-end, but am I correct in believing that it is easily worth the asking price? Also the leather saddle caught my eye, but I don't know too much about that. Please help me out
------
Miele Doral - $100 (He said he would do quite a bit less)
$100 obo
12 speed Miele road bike. In very good shape, road ready, air up the tires, oil the chain and ride.
Very light, guessing under 22lbs. Iscaselle leather saddle, Shimano components, Ambrosio wheels, double butted chrome-moly frame.
I see no size markings and not real sure how to measure this. Seat tube measures 19.5" from center of bottom bracket to top of seat mast and the top tube measures 21.5" from center seat mast to center head tube....so it's a small bike.

I'd have a look at the Bottecchia to see what up with it, otherwise the Takara and the Le Tour are the best of the bunch. Looks like there is the same seller for the Bottecchhia and Takara. See if you can cut a deal.

Yeah, I'm currently emailing a ton of people trying to see if I can see some lowered prices because I'm a cheap skate.

As a CL seller, I do not respond to such emails... You will have a better luck if you go with cash in hand and offer less. Easier for a seller to ignore emails than cash...

I always get responses... it must be my charming personality. I too sell things on craigslist and I usually set my price a little higher so when people ask if I can go lower then I just end up at the price I want to sell for. Maybe thats just me though.
+1 I ignore any email offers. Negotiating is limited to in person only. There are too many no shows on Craigs List IMHO to debate pricing via email.

+1, I insist on recieving a phone number. I call it my "nut case filter", it's effective.
To the OP, you must live in an area that's not big on C&V road bikes. In Raleigh, you wouldn't have time to post here and ask about that LeTour or the Motobecane, they'd be gone. I'm not sure about the Takara, could be a diamond or a lump of coal.

I most definitely do not. So by the looks of it the Le Tour should be the one I try and get first. Thanks again, you guys are a big help.

Along with the new question at the top of the page:
Should I buy a 10 dollar Schwinn World traveler? I believe it's in need of new tires and some brake work.
I would just start a new thread, reviving old threads doesn't work so well but here are my 2 cents. Get the miele if it fits. It looks to be in and around the 50cm range +/- and they are well made Canadian frames. Some of the worst examples in my area have been going for $200+ I'm not sure where you are located but if you are in Toronto, that's a steal.

The thread really wasn't that old. The best part is the guy said he would probably drop the price to $60... do you by any chance know anything about the saddle?
can't say that i have heard of it before but i don't really know much about saddles
