Introductions - new guy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello everyone,Michael keen here from the Chicago land area.I was directed here by a friend of mine.I'm preparing for my first ragbai so i'm fairly new at long distance cycling.I have been traning since the weather has broke.Logged in just about 800 miles thus far.Trying to get abot 1600-2000 miles before ragbrai.I have been working on my cadence trying to stay at 90rpm.However I was in a bad accident,my ankle was crushed. What do you think about doing this ride without clip-ins

You don't need them.
26,000 miles for me with toe clips no straps.
Take care of the ankle.

Hello Michael,
As a new rider I have been asking my self the same question. But, so far I have been doing good with no clips or even pedal straps. But, people keep saying that pedals and clips add x amount of performance for the same amount of effort and blah blah blah.
But, the more I hear that the more I want to train and pedal farther with no clips and no pedal straps. :)

Hello Dave,
Thanks for responding to my thred.I feel the same as you do.What I have been doing is,when my foot is at the 11:00 I kick a little forward that seems to work fine,to get a little more efficent.I'm not racing anyway.Without clips I can get off my bike, and just walk to check out the local shops when we take a brake. Thanks again Dave
