Mountain Biking - Recommendations for a top notch wheel build-up....

Trying to decide what compnents to use to build up the wheels on my XC ride...

Currently, I'm leaning toward King hubs 32/32, Mavic X517 rims, DT Spokes, and tires TBD.

Agree? Disagree? Suggestions welcomed. If you have other suggestions than those I've listed, please do me a favor and tell me why your suggested component (or combo) is a better idea than those above. (Money is not a primary factor).

I'm riding a rear King/X517 with DB DT spokes and alloy nipples. It's light and has been durable so far. It's hard to beat the Kings for weight, durability, and service interval. I've heard some bad things about the X517's, but haven't had any problems with them myself (neither have my friends).

Those parts will build into approx. a 700 g front wheel and an 850 g rear wheel. Nice and light.

Have you checked out the Spinergy SPOX? If I were buying a new set of wheels and cost was not the primary concern, I'd get a set of these. I'm a big guy, 230+ lbs and I've heard they're super strong. If you're not big like me, I would suggest getting a 28 spoke front wheel, it weighs less and is not a critical strength part of your bike. If the wheels are going to be your "Race Wheels" then I would get the front radially "straight" laced as well.(Shorter spokes=less weight) and get the rear 28 spoke as well, although I would stick with 3 cross lacing pattern. As far as the individual components there are many good brands to choose from, and many companies are now making great wheelsets, i.e. Mavic Crossmax, Ritchey Speedmax, Cane Creek Cronos, just to name a few. As far as just hubs, I like Chris King very reliable and good looking, or a set of Huegi Hubs, swiss made and very smooth. Rims, I can't suggest one company of another, most are very good, although my last set of rims were Velocity Aeroheat AT rims. I got these because you can get them in cool colors. Mine were Powdercoated Red with Black DT spokes.(Very Sharp) Oh, and they were lace to Huegi hubs.

like it says in the Race Face manuals... "Smart Move"... the 517's on King's is a wise choice, and a wheelset that'll be dependable, and very low maintenence. I don't think you'll have a problem between your annual Hub Checkups... it's a good idea(very strongly recommended for proper care) to send those in to be overhauled at the factory once a year(it's not something to trust to even the most technical and capable bike shops... i've ruined a rear hub once already, cause i thought it was going to be simple. it only costs like 15 bucks per hub, and it's really worth it.

I-9"s If you got the coin, super stiff and built to the specs you want. The stiffeness translate to effieciency you can feel at the pedals.

I am looking at wheelsets too and was very intrested in this thread and I did not look at "date" either so don't feel too bad.

I saw in another thread you responded to that someone suggested that your settings may be set backwards, check it out.

A lot of the present issues seem to concern what browser(s) is being used.
