Mere hours after a dead cyclist was found in a ditch on a rural Ontario road, police arrested a man they believe struck the cyclist and sped off without contacting authorities.

An investigation into the death of 37-year-old Adam Hofstetter of Tillsonburg, Ont., who was found dead in a ditch on Hawkins Road at about 11:30 Thursday night, led police to the residence of an Aylmer, Ont. man who they arrested at around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

EDIT: Another fatality... different circumstance.

Robin Freeman was remembered Friday at a service at Arlington Woods Free Methodist Church in Nepean.

He had been cycling on Carling Avenue near Woodroffe Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a motorcycle crashed into him.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Freeman but he was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police said the motorcycle was travelling at a high speed at the time of the crash.

He was not wearing a helmet when a speeding motorcycle hit him while crossing the street.

Last year was pretty bad around here... it culminated with the ex attorney general dragging a cyclist to his death. There is another thread in A&S on it.

We are off to a really bad start though the season has barely started and two deaths in Ontario, plus that horrible incident next door in Quebec. Most deaths happen June, July and August.

Fingers crossed.

I still have an eye on the Bryant/Sheppard case -- f'n b*st*rd. But what's up with the truck right hooks, the buses, and the peloton plow-throughs?

I guess stupid really isn't stupid anymore when stupid is the majority, eh?
