Nice! I've heard the "Still Alive" song a million times, but never played it.
Enlighten me. What exactly is 'Portal'?
Never mind. Wiki to the rescue (if I picked the right one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_(video_game))?)

It's a puzzle-oriented video game

Thank goodness my computer is too old to run it. Otherwise I'd have to give up BF or something.

What? The game is 3 years old! Your computer must be pretty ancient.

Sort of reminds me of Phil Collins of Genesis.

Requirements for Mac: OS X version Leopard 10.5.8, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8 or higher, or ATI X1600 or higher, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
I have: Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection, 10.5.8, 2 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Computer's almost six years old. You should have seen me play WoW! 5 fps FTW.
on an iMac here. Steam keeps timing out whilst doing the monster update...keeps asking if I'm connected to teh interweb. Then rerestarts the update. d'oh...this better be a fun game..specially since I don't do much game crap on the komputer.

I was going to ask who else uses steam. The one guy at work with a mac isn't interested in games, and the only other people I know of are on here :-) I'm Caspar_s on steam too.
Also Portal doesn't take too long to play - unless you're like my wife who plays for 10 minutes and then stops for a week or two. I haven't let her listen to "Still Alive" yet.
(Oh and the macs need better system specs to run games than pcs.)

Ah, yes, I remember my nVidia 5200. I had one in the first computer I built in the 21st century. I had to overclock it just to play Sid Meier's Pirates properly.
I'm really surprised Portal requires an 8-series card for the Mac.
Downloaded that whopper. Now I gotta figure what the heck Steam is. But later. It's too damn nice out now.

Just had to put in my two cents... Portal is AWESOME! and another example of a.... ummmm.. success story. How that is, is that a person... or two persons i cant exactly remember were working on a game in college that had kinda this same idea but a bit diffrent. It was about a princess who had to escape her capture but she could not jump, her way around that was by creating portals. Valve found there work and hired them to do the same idea but with more of a Half-Life theme with a larger team, thus Portal was born. I thought it was interesting when i found out so just passing it along :D

I just tried it with network cable unplugged, thus limiting the phone-home and spyware functions of Steam, and Portal worked fine. Supposedly Portal runs fine on Wine. If you want a physical copy of Portal, buy the Orange Box.
So you can play it if you can live with the DRM.

Thanx for the heads up.
Brilliant game! One of the best this generation. Great humor in it.

Dear Portal,
You sounded interesting when you came out, and you sound interesting still. Once you are available for Linux and are free of that phone-home, digital restrictions management, spyware, digital-distribution-in-lieu-of-physical-media garbage you call Steam, give me a call.
