I'm a new comer to cycling and I'm learning very slowly about the components on a bicycle. I'm at the final stage of choosing a bike, but I'm not sue which one of the following two I should buy:
Dawes Discovery 601 2010

or
GT Transeo 2.0 Disc 2010

Some opinions would be appreciated

The best advice I can give - is ride them both again, and buy the one that feels the best.........

I going to buy it online, so I won't be able to try it. Which one would you buy and why? Your answer to this question would help me to choose.

Why your insistence to buy online?
Really, you need to ride a bicycle in order to determine how it fits you and what feels best - especially if you're a newcomer.
Go to a bike shop and ride some bikes around that they have.

There is quite a difference in the two bikes, the biggest being front suspension. I think you are looking at apples and oranges, rather than two different color apples.
The Dawes is a better bicycle, in my opinion - better componentry, 9 spd, leaned a little more toward road use, carbon fork blades instead of suspension; but, it's also more expensive - it will probably be better if you are not planning on off road use. It will be a nice bike on streets, paths, and will do fine on smooth gravel. If you don't need the suspension, you are better off with a "solid" fork, for just about everything.
If cost was not a factor, I'd want the best I could buy, and the Dawes appears to be it.
I've never worked on a Dawes, but it looks nice. GT, I have worked on, and they appear more lower end.
Do you need the suspension? Is the bike $250 (about 25%) better? I would say it is!
p.s. I'm a big fan of Schwalbe Tires, but cant find anything (spec related, or even pics)on the "City Plus". I really like the 48X38X28 chainrings - the middle ring will keep you near the center of the cassette, for most riding. Just a touch higher than 48X36X26, while still keeping the gear changes closely spaced.. There's a lot to like about this Dawes bike.
Only you can decide.
