I really do like burgers and fries:o
I have almost eliminated them from my diet but I still think about them from time to time.

I have eliminated them as well, but I think about them once a week! I do have turkey burgers and I found 97% Lean Ground Sirloin so I have one of those burgers every now and then with fat free cheese.

The fries are the killer. I have not had fast food in like 3 weeks, I finally have come to the conclusion I am lactose intolerant so no more cheese but thats ok it has lead to 9 lbs of weight lose. You can make a pretty good burger out of turkey or lean ground beef. Add some pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, minced garlic, and some cajun seasoning. As a special treat you can make 2 thin patties and add a layer of turkey pepperoni in the middle, cook on the grill or under the broiler. Throw on a light wheat bun, or two pieces of light wheat bread, MMMM!!!!
Yes, the fries are the real problem. Sigh...
I make my turkey burgers with 85/15 turkey... I cover them in CHili powder... Lots of chili powder, then add some Ms dash and tony sacheries for taste... I eat it just meat bun and a few avocado slices... total yum.. Cook mine on my foremans grill... damn, now I am hungry..

A burger once in a while isn't a problem, stay clear of the fries and cokes though. I have a favorite burger stop coming back from the Valley Springs ride that maybe once a month I stop at and indulge.

Burger, fries, Pepsi...for me!
I have been doing 99% lean turkey burgers with whatever spices from the cabinet on the foreman grill. I thought they would be too dry, but not bad at all...actually very satisfying.

Veggie burger, Onion rings, and sweet tea. Thats the good stuff.
Just to make this thread cycling related, when I was in college I used to go out on a ride and then eat two bacon cheeseburgers and a mountain of fries without gaining an ounce. I rarely kept track of how many miles I rode back then but it must have been enough to keep slim!

If the cheese package says "0g of sugar" than it's lactose free. Aged cheeses especially tend to fall into this category...hmmm, 3-year aged extra sharp cheddar. I think I need a snack.

This weekend I lured the kids back to the mountain bike trails and bike paths, part of the lure was the nosh at the end:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EcMingEJDsk/S_nC5VdIp2I/AAAAAAAAAEI/bHZj_MlrV0U/s1600/DSC_0027.jpg
We racked up and hour and a half, and then splurged at All-American Drive-In which is kind of legendary around here.
If you're crazy enough to visit Long island, it's a trip back in time, and a great spot to grab a burger. Even if there's a big crowd, they move faster than freak. Sometimes, your food is no sooner ordered than it's ready. And that can happen on a busy Saturday evening at six. Amazing.
Today, my son, a 15 yr old 6'2" 220# Clyde said he wanted to go riding again. (No lure of nosh this time, he just couldn;t get enough riding -- and it didn't take much to twist my arm...or the rest of the family for that matter. They all came, again.
http://theoutsideinsideout.blogspot.com/2010/05/so-much-for-marg-and-robby-not-being.html
But the after ride fare was a simple home made BBQ burger, no fries, some corn on the cob and a little chicken on the backyard grill. I love to BBQ outside after a ride, even if I'm tired and still in my bike shorts!
This weekend was a treat of sorts, but it's back to a more austere menu, and the fries are not going to be on it for a good three months.
I had lost 10#, but started back up toward 198 this am, so I have to be a little more conservative with the post-ride nosh and, ahem, those two beers. One to help get the charcoal lit, and the other to wash that lil' ole burger down.
MTBing sure does work up an appetite.

I just drove by the All American Drive In...accidentally! I picked up a bike in Islip, NY and got off of the Belt a few exits too soon and drove by that place! I thought, yummm...then remembered my diet and losing weight and opened up the cooler with my packed dinner instead!

Awww man, I just posed something similar...I screwed the pooch this weekend from the diet perspective. Didn't even do all I could do as far as riding. Was pretty Lazy about it. Can't wait till the walky dog gets here and I can have some company on my rides (2 GSP's that are just dying to get out and ride!)

I adore burgers and fries. Sooo tasty. I make them instead at home rather than at the burger place down the street. I use extra lean ground beef seaoned with salt, cayenne and garlic powder and then cook them in the oven until well down. For the sake of healthy I'll use whole wheat buns rather than white. Home oven fries are easy. Cut one large russet potato for each person into chips, drizzle 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil for each person and place on a parchment paper lined oven sheet. Cook at 450'degrees for about 15-20 minutes until they are deep golden brown. Sprinkle of salt and pepper. Better than any frozen oven fries and you don't have to break out the chip fryer.

I think burgers and fries are the staple of a clyde. Its part of how we wound up on this forum. Theyre also tougher to quit than a crack addiction, because you do not need drugs to live, but you do need food! LOL
I have been doing pretty well doing turkey burgers at home once every couple weeks. But there is an awesome cheeseburger place right by my house than I will be having the day I'm under 300 LBS (hopefully in just a cpl more weeks)!

I'm actually not so big of a fan of burgers but I LOVE fries. I love pretty much anything you can do to a potato. Fried, baked, mashed, scalloped. Yummy.
I don't buy them, though. I live alone and even a 5 lb bag of them would go bad before I'd finish it. Until the kitties learn to love them, I only get them when I'm out to dinner! :)

Home made hamburgers, YUMMMM!:thumb: I'd much rather eat a homemade than from any joint. Plain ol bread allows me to get a better taste of the burger compared to the hamburger buns.

I think burgers and fries are the staple of a clyde.
Fries for sure but I'd have to say, when I get into the weight losing mode, I eat a cheeseburger everynight!
I eat fruits, veges and chicken breasts at day but since I always seem to be on nightshift, Gina would bring me a nice big cheeseburger for dinner. No McD's type junk, but a nice burger with nice tomatoes, lettuce and a good beef patty. I'd lose up to 30 lbs eating this way. NO FRIES!:D
So George Foreman's cheeseburger training diet works for me!:p

T-shirt:D..........................It's funny, I did wear In-N-Out t-shirts (and others) on the bike for years and years. I didn't start wearing a jersey on the bike till I started carrying the camera about 3 yearsa go. I'd still wear one cause I hate jerseys, but I need the pockets now.:p
I don't mnd cotton cause I don't drip (sweat ) much.

Yes, the fries are the real problem. Sigh...
They always have been for me, since mine are garden burgers. Not that the pesto spread or the cheese helps any ... but it sure does taste good!
I still have about one veggie burger a week, with a big helping of fries and tobasco. But I'll set up a two hour (moving time) ride, and stop at some point along the way, to burn off some of the calories I'll suck down. And then the rest of the week, I wind up riding at least an hour and a half a day, thanks to that blasted 500 mi/month challenge. So the fries are like speed bumps ... they slow the weight-loss down, but don't prevent it entirely.
I had to see the doctor on Thursday. Before the appointment really began, he looked over the files, and said "This can't be right. Did you lose 50 pounds??"

I made some kick-ass burgers on Saturday. Our local butcher does a lean ground beef mix with diced hickory smoked bacon right in the mixture. Served with grilled onions and melted cheddar over grilled slices of roasted garlic sourdough bread.
I rode 163 miles prior to this feast. I rarely feel guilty about any of my culinary "guilty" pleasures.
The only one I ever feel guilty about is Fatburger chili cheese fries. I could finish the FC508 and still feel like I didn't ride enough to counterbalance those fries.

Burger sounds good but chili cheese fies? That is one thing I have no idea why anybody would eat them, or even order them.:D I really don't care for fries myself and don't eat many, but CC fries, two bites and I'm done.....sick!:p

Here's what you do: Pick the greasiest hamburger joint you can think of that is 50 miles away...preferably downhill and with the wind. Go there and indulge to your heart's content. Go hog wild and have two or even three with fries. Now ride home hard and fast. At 55 miles, you'll be thinking that you probably should have done that. At 75 miles, you'll be wanting to hurl. As you reach your doorstep and crawl towards the toilet, you'll swear you'll never do that again. Repeat as necessary until the lesson sticks.

I once read of a ride that was a donut shop crawl. The riders said they were pretty sick of donuts by the end of the ride. You could do the same with hamburgers:injured:

Here in St. Louis area we have the Tour de Donut - http://www.bebikeclub.com/tourdedonut/
Basically, it's a race where you get time subtracted for eating donuts beforehand. However, my friend that does it every year said they're not normal donuts - they're large cake donuts so they're very dense.
He said he ate two but it made him ill enough that it wasn't really worth the time he gained for it! :)

That looks just plain evil! :D So thats a new tactic not to eat donuts anymore eh? Never heard of this before :)
And about burgers and fries, yes, I eat them, then ride another 10 to 15 miles that day, that way it almost has no impact on my weight. It's simple - eat and train, nothing more to it. And nothing wrong with a good burger either! :D

French fries exist because it isn't polite to suck the (gotta be Heinz) ketchup straight from the bottle in public.

I'm one of the new Clydes to the board, got up to 240 to 245 pounds, around 2 1/2 years ago I started a new diet program, and bought
a cheap mountain bike. Last summer I had gone down to 175 pounds. Right now I'm around 183 to 187 I guess, waist size still the same,
as when I was 175 last summer. Doctors says that I must be gaining muscle mass, I hope so, LOL... I stopped all fried foods and sweets,
and cut way back on portions of food intake. but to stay on the topic of the thread( I still LOVE to sneak a dollar menu double cheese
burger with small fries from McDonald's every now and then.....shame on me, but I'm Loving it!!!!
I really, really like this. This is a recipe that is sort of a mashup of a couple of other recipes I've come across, then with a few other things thrown in. These have really satisfied my desire for burgers! If you don't want to grind your own chicken you can just start off with ground chicken to begin with but I really prefer grinding my own since you can control what's going in!
Jamaican Jerk Chicken
1 tablespoon Ground allspice
1 tablespoon Dried thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons Cayenne pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons Freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons Ground sage
3/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons Garlic powder or fresh
1 tablespoon Sugar
1/4 cup Olive oil
1/4 cup Soy sauce
3/4 cup White Vinegar
1/2 cup Orange juice
Juice from 1 Medium Lime
1 Scotch bonnet pepper (habanero) (I used Jalapeno instead)
3 Green onions -- finely chopped
1 cup White Onion -- finely chopped
Approximately 3 Lbs chicken breasts
Seed and finely chop Scotch Bonnet pepper. Trim chicken of fat and tenderize or pierce with fork.
Combine allspice, thyme, cayenne pepper, black pepper, sage, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, garlic powder and sugar. With a wire whisk, slowly add the olive oil, say sauce, vinegar, orange juice, and lime juice.
Finely chop the Scotch Bonnet pepper and onion, add to mixture and and mix well.
Put marinade in a zip-top bag with the Chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour, overnight if possible.
Remove the breasts from the marinade. Bring the leftover marinade to a slow boil and reduce to desired consistency.
Pat chicken dry and run through a meat grinder. I use a fine grind.
3 Cloves Garlic - chopped
3 Shallots - finely chopped
3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
1 Egg
2 tablespoons Thyme - pulled from stem and chopped fine
3 tablespoons Parsley - chopped fine
Salt and Pepper to taste
Saute garlic and shallots until soft. Set aside to cool. Mix all remaining ingredients. Add in cooled garlic and shallots and mix well. Add to ground chicken and mix.
Allow to sit for at least 1 hour, longer if possible (I usually aim for about 4 hours).
Grill chicken as desired and serve with reduced marinade.

I'm hungry already.
