Alt Bike Culture - Kinda wondering if

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Its possible to build a derailleur/fixed bike by using a bmx flip flop hub with a derailleur/5speed cogset on the right side and a SS cog on the left, running duel chains of course and a tandem crankset, or would this cause a black hole in the universe?

No.

Did you really think, even for a second, that something like that was possible?

He thought it was possible to troll. My answer was to that. Time to lock this thread.
but.. WHY?
if you're going to have multiple speeds on one side, why have a single speed on the opposite?
I could understand if the single side is fixed or something.
but then again, WHY?

Just cause?
I have a friend who really really wants someone to make a cassette/fixed flip flop hub. It essentially already exists in the form of mtb bike hubs with discbrake holes, but he wants a singlespeed specific one. So like, BMX cassette one side, fixed on the other. He just really likes singlespeed cassettes.

Yes, you can, but you will have to remove the chain from the side you are not using.
I could see having one length of chain for the fixed side and carrying a section of chain with master links to add to the length when you want to use the derailer side.
Should probably post this in Alt bikes forum.
Enjoy

In theory wouldn't paddling forward cause the 5 speed side to pull and the SS side to freewheel, paddling reverse cause the SS side to pull and the 5 speed side to freewheel? sorry i realize i should have posted this in alt, and by no means meant to troll, could a mod move it?
Search for "retrodirect". It might be what you're looking for.

You guys, it's actually a canoe. Of course it would work then.
I have no idea what the rest of the post means.

Rotational relative motion is a toughie.
Do you realize that when you are going 10 mph the bottom of the wheel is stopped, the hub is doing 10 and the top of the wheel is screaming by at 20 mph?
No wonder you need all those spokes to keep everything together.
Enjoy
