Cyclocross - Specialized Tricross VS Trek XO VS Surly Crosscheck

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Going to be doing a lot of 'cross racing this season, so I want a good solid bike for it. I have a carbon road bike, so I don't need this to be road oriented. I basically want a fast, light enough, race bike.

Tricross:
I have a Specialized, like it.
Light enough.
105 components
Roval wheels
$1900

XO:
Don't really want a Trek.
Light enough.
105 components
Bontrager wheels
$1675

Crosscheck:
Surly is fine.
Heavy.
Bar end shifters/tiagra components
Alex wheels
$1095

Basically just by reading what I wrote here I have eliminated the Crosscheck.

Anyway, I don't like Trek much, but I feel that since it is equipped very similarly to the Tricross but less money I should go for that.

I kind of answered my own questions here, but still want opinions.

So there it is - opinions?

*I work in a shop, so I get these bikes for a lot less - I listed retail prices just to give an idea ;)

Does your shop also sell Redline? The Conquest Pro is very nice machine w/ Rival and retails for $1600. I see a lot of Redlines at the local CX course. Cannondale and Redline seem to be the most popular bikes for CX Racing and then probably Ridley from what I have seen. Out of the three you listed I would go with the Specialized but it is very overpriced for the components it comes with.

Heard a lot of good things about the Conquest Pro. Good value.

Personally, I'm biased towards the Tricross. I have a 2010 Tricross Comp and a 2006 model. Love them.

The Fuji Cross bike is also a great value. Ultegra SL components - Mavic Aksium wheels. $1500.

The Bikes Direct Fantom Cross Team is another great value at $1900. Ti frame, Ultegra components, Ritchey Pro wheels.

Are bar end shifters common in the CX world?

2 for the tricross.

Todd, yes, bar end shifters are common.

Not sure if we can get Redline, but we don't stock it for sure.

Don't want a fuji; I can pro deal a bike to get a much better deal.

I went from a redline to a tricross last season. I am very happy with the switch.

If you work at a shop, why not consider a Chilli Con Crosso - nice, light, scandium frame. As for the crosscheck, just get the frame and build it up to whatever spec you desire.
