If your doctor says to wait a couple weeks, then you should wait a couple of weeks. He's not some untrained hack that is just throwing numbers out there to make your life worse.
As an aside, is CAPS LOCK really necessary?

Do what your Dr says so you don't scar your lungs. Bronchitis can easily turn to pneumonia if you run yourself down, or if you have any tendency toward asthma, it can trigger a potentially fatal asthma attack.

Ever since my boyfriend had bronchitis that morphed to pneumonia that lasted 2 months, and got fairly far down into one lung, he has never been the same. Doesn't have the same aerobic capacity, and thus is somewhat limited in his cardio options. He tried to work for about a month of that pneumonia, and thats why he has permanent damage. The bike will be there after you get healthy; it just ain't worth it to push it and risk permanent damage to your lungs.
