Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was riding home from work last night in the rain (I don't mind dark or rain just not at the same time). A driver ran a stop sign and nearly hit me so I got to thinking, I have really nice rain gear. Showers Pass Elite 2.0 jacket and pants, $400+ for the set. I would assume that if I had been hit by this driver the raingear would be toast. Assuming the driver is at fault, I would expect his/her insurance to cover medical and repair or replacement of my bike but what about gear??? $400 is not chump change and I saved a long time to get that raingear. What do you all think, should the ins. company replace it?? Would they??

Let me reiterate that this is hypothetical, both I and my raingear are perfectly fine. Last night was not even really that close of a call. Just made me wonder.

10% do not have any insurance.

Go for a nice slow dry ride.

If you can prove it cost that much (save receipts!) they should as it was damaged in an accident. When I was hit I was able to get reimbursed for sunglasses that broke in addition to the broken bike and cyclocomputer (luckily I was fine, but the bike got run over).

Yes, clothing is replaced by insurance.
