Hello.
I've been lurking around Bike Forums for a while, mostly doing research on building a bicycle.
After riding a friend's fixed gear bike, I am now in the process of building one.
I have found parts that I want online and was wondering if you guys could give me some guidance on how well this will work (eg. if the parts would be compatible or other recommendations).

Feel free to criticize my choices but my budget's about $600-$700 and I have certain color scheme in mind (chrome fork/stem/handlebar/seatpost, black frame/crank/hubs, white wheels, leather color saddle/straight bar).

Here's what I've found online so far
- Pake Track Frame 55cm $185

- Soma Chrome lugged straight steel track fork $110

- Velocity Deep-V White with Forumula hubs $190

- Andel Economy Crankset 46T 144bolt circle $65
http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=188_193_660&products_id=6865
- Andel Cobra BB - 68x110 $20
http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=188_247_1708&products_id=9452
- KMC - 1/8" white chain $8
http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=188_1486_1488&products_id=2521

I feel like these are the main things that I need, I am still searching for chrome seatpost/straight bar/stem, leather colored saddle, chrome/black pedals

I know this is a bit long but I would appreciate your advice/recommendations, perhaps I am spending too much money?

Thanks for all your help!

Have you bought cogs and lockring?
Get a Shimano/Dura Ace lockring.

Also....get the MKS Sylvan Track pedals.
Good choice on frame and fork. :thumb:

Thanks for the advice!
I wasn't sure what length of fork I should get, do you have any thoughts on that?

its a pake frame w/o the labels, includes fork, and is a lot cheaper!

That looks like a steal! But it has a 1" headset instead of 1-1/8" which means it's a older standard right?
Another thing is that I would love to have a black frame and chrome fork, I wish there was a cheaper way to get the ones I found.

It's last year's model and yes, it's a pretty damn good deal. A simple shim would allow you to use any given 1 1/8" stem.

So I would still be able to use 1-1/8" fork and headset on that frame?
Could someone elaborate on this subject...I am still kind of new to this jargon :p

You'll need 1" threadless headset.

Then you'll use a shim on your steerer tube, so you can use an 1 1/8" stems.

i was taking another look at the Pake frame and SOMA fork, how do I select the legnth of the fork?
and does the rake on the frame and the fork have to match?
