Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Trying a camera rig out (video)

I'm on a quest for better bicycle camera mounting. This is test one from the first placement, which is just a monopod strapped to the non-gear side chain stay. The monopod is the cheapo Walmart kind so it does have flex but I'm not sure that a stiffer monopod would provide less vibration. I may try a carbon fiber rod or monopod in this same position. Manfrotto Magic Arm is also going to be tried.

Overall I feel that it gives different view, but I centered the bike and focus is on bike/my legs. When the weather is better I will get the bike out and try more with this position and work on composition. Vibration will always be a problem... :rolleyes:. I shot this around my apartment complex to test the vibrations because the concrete is pretty tore up (note the construction). If it looks like I'm drunk, its because I'm dodging some of the more severe cracks and holes in the concrete. I'm also turning around to look at the camera a lot.

Sound will still need to be captured externally, which I'm not worried about at the moment. Alice in Chains is the first song on my computer alphabetically... it substitutes wind noise. Yes, I'm wearing velcro shoes from, I love them.

Has anyone else worked with cameras not on handlebars or helmets? Any suggestions?

Holy crap! I like this, very cool perspective.
I've seen a guy mounted his camera on the top tube, you could try that out. Also, that set up seems a bit dangerous for the road in traffic and such, since it is protruding a lot out of the chainstay, but I could be wrong. I actually like the sound of traffic, pedaling, chain and all that "raw" sound when you are biking. Kudos on the video. :thumb:

the only thing good that i can see coming out of mounting it there is admiring your own power calves

I think the angle is cool. Shows the entire bike, plus a very wide span of what is in front of the rider. Only down side is that it does focus on the rider's legs more than anything else.

yep. I like the angle. Definitely better than a lot I've seen (crotch perspective cams are totally weird). That top tube mounted vid is kinda blocking the street view with the handlebars. I feel like the OP's perspective is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. Care to post a pic of ur rig at some point?
