Hey Ive been a lurker on the boards but have never really had a question about anything until now. I mostly keep coming back for half naked pictures of scrod and the hilariously dumb questions. Anyways.

I ride a 54cm Langster. I have the stock wheels on there right now that are 30mm deep. Theoretically I should be able to lace up a velocity deep v wheel of the same spoke count due to my spokes being the same length correct?

Also, If I were to get a B43 or something deeper than 30mm would it make more sense (aka be cheaper to) just buy the wheel without it being laced to a hub and have my bike shop lace up the wheel to the hub I already have? Since I already have a good hub with my stock set.

Thanks.

I'm so famous! I love it.

Your answer really depends on what kind of deal you can find on a pre-build wheel vs. what your LBS charges to build/rebuild one. If you've already got a good hub, I would suggest having it laced to a new rim...especially if you're planning on going deeper than 30mm. I can't speak for all shops but I know the one I work at would knock some money off for the exchange of spokes, assuming yours are in good shape and can be reused.

Well from what I see on ebay and around the web a set of Deep V wheels is around 60$. Much cheaper than the 250$ and up ive seen for whole sets already laced up. Either way it seems like its going to be cheaper to just get the wheel and have my shop lace it up to the hub I already have.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Your LBS can most likely order you a rim and if you have a good relationship with them, they may cut you a bit of a deal. I now I can get B43s for a good deal cheaper than what they cost online.

This has absolutely nothing to do with your inquiry but here's a pic of me in a giant ice cream cone:
