That was really scary when it happened. I was really turned off by the victory celebration until it was clear a couple minutes later that the driver was going to be OK. For those of you who weren't watching, it occurred on the final lap.

The race had too many crashes.

Because it was so hot the tires had issues with traction on the track. Track temp was 130 degrees.

The driver who's camera was recording the crash was just about decapitated. Definitely one of the more dangerous sports out there.
I think all the seats in that area of crowd are going to need a clean.

good old melting tires...
The race had too many crashes.
once there's a crash, there's a bunch of debris and oil that needs to be cleaned up before racing can resume.
except the track doesn't get a thorough cleaning until after the race is over.

The rest are just games."

Yeah, I was at the casinos and had just won $200.00 when I happened to glance in the direction of the casino sports monitor in time to see the whole crash! I yelled,"Oh ****!" to which my wife answered,"Calm down! Its only $200.00!" True story!

That was Ryan Hunter-Reay. He is fine. The driver flipping through the air was Mike Conway, who will be out of action for at least three months as he recovers from a back injury and fractures to his left leg. I saw it when it happened. (OK. 30 minutes later as I was watching it time shifted with my PVR), and I thought, "Ya know, that could have easily been the last thing seen by Ryan Hunter-Reay".

Holy crap! So that's what makes those oval tracks interesting.
Good to hear that the drivers will recover.
