I was riding yesterday and my left crank arms dust cap somehow fell off.
I think it was because I fell while riding and the dust cap became loose and feel off while riding.
my question is..Is a dust cap really necessary? Is it still safe to ride?
Thanks for your help.
it's not really necessary.
as long as there's a bolt on there and it's tight, it's safe.

But dude...what about DUST???
Once I had one fall off. So then I used loctite to make sure it didn't happen again. Then it took me over an hour to remove them, because the metal is so damned soft they kept falling apart no matter how I tried to get them off and it was the biggest ***** of all time. I just leave them off now.
you can get newer crank bolts that are basically bolt and dust cap in one.
pure genius is what those are :innocent:
