Happy 180th birthday to all fans of Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. I spent a few hours today attending a friend's annual Brucknerthon, listening to recordings of all 11 symphonies (I lasted through the first 5), comparing notes with old and new friends, and buying a few classical CDs at the impromptu swap meet. Since I am currently in the process of replacing the bottom bracket on the Capo, I rode a French bike, rather than a more appropriate Austrian one, to and from the event.

Sorry I missed the party. We just did the Bruckner Requiem in D minor for our Hampshire Choral Society November concert. My favorite section is the Hostias (4-part male voices only, mostly a capella with a couple of trombones chiming in occasionally) The whole piece is gorgeous, many fugue patterns with some surprising & delicious chords!

The French are part German, as long as it is post-1940, right?
