So I have been on a quest for a new bike to replace my bridgestone rb-2 ss conversion. A kilo tt in chrome seems like a good deal, but then i saw a beautiful frame by wabi (wabicycles.com). The classic comes in a nice turquoise and is made from Reynolds 725 steal. The frame, fork, seat post clamp is 350. A complete is 675. While they look like they did an excellent job selecting parts, i have a feeling that i might end up changing things out anyways. Plus i have never built a bike from the ground up, and it sounds like a fun project.

It would be nice to get a better quality steal, and it seems that except for possibly IRO, no one else is offering them in this price range.

As a newb to anything but basic maintenance i was wonder what i could expect (besides taking it to the lbs for bb installation?). Also with a fresh clean slate like that what kind of parts would you throw on it?

What say you?

I actually don't own a Wabi, so I can't speak for the installation, but you can the older model for $100 cheaper at $575: http://www.wabicycles.com/classic_bike_spec_sapphire.html

wow that is sweetening the deal! Maybe i will just go for the complete then. What is the difference though? I cant see anything that screams different. Except a .4 pound difference...

Also, how did you find that page? I cant find a link to it from their site

On second thought, I'm not entirely sure if this is actually available for purchase. I found it through Google, but if you try to add the bike to your cart, nothing happens. I would call them and ask if the 09 version still available (and at the listed price), because if it were, I might go for it myself. :D

I have the 2010 Classic, and it's pretty sweet. The difference between it and the 2009 model is that the 09 has slightly heavier wheels. Get the complete - there's nothing on there that needs replacing right away. Give Richard a call and tell him Brian from Bikeforums sent you. If he has a 2009 model left, I'm sure he'll give you the sale price.

You click "Reply with quote" under the post of choice; you don't have to do it manually.
