Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Jamis Beatnick

Has anyone had any experience with the Jamis Beatnick? I'm looking into picking one up for 514 when I go to Vegas in a couple weeks. No Sales Tax, just a clean buy. Is it worth it? does it hold any comparison with the Sputnick which I've heard nothing but great things about?

Is it worth going from a Langster to a Beatnik?

Also, any opinions on Masi'?

Masi has some good and bad bikes. Which one were you thinking?

Just in general. I had been seeing them on CL and was curious as to their quality.
Also, how is the Origin 8 uno?

Masi seems quite expensive for just a 4130 frame, maybe someone else can shed some light on this?

I wouldn't buy the Uno for more than $400, personally, but it looks to be an okay bike (I was also considering it but couldn't find any sellers for under $500).

As for the Beatnik, if you're lucky, you can get it for $430 from this store (http://www.bicyclebananasstore.com/2009_Jamis_Beatnik_p/ja09_beatnik.htm). I have shopping for bikes in your price range ($500ish) and found this store through Google. Unfortunately, they don't have my size, but maybe they have yours.

Right now I ride a langster but I'm concerned as I begin to ride more the aluminum frame will be a big downside. So is the beatnik worth anything or is the sputnik it as far as jamis fixed's go?

Personally, I would definitely buy a Beatnik for $430 if I could.

However, I have to ask, why are you concerned about the aluminum frame? Road buzz? Durability? I've ridden thousands of miles on an aluminum frame, and it's been completely fine.

If you already have a bike that you like, I don't really see a reason to switch, quite honestly.

From what I heard, Masi is just a brand name now, completely devoid of all italian racing heritage and ownership, and made in Taiwan.....

I still don't really get it; what about the aluminum frame do you think will cause discomfort? I've toured on aluminum frames . . .

And also, there's no way to actually know if it'll be uncomfortable without actually riding it more than five miles. If you've never ridden longer distances before, you're going to be a little uncomfortable regardless of what bike you have. If this potential-long-distance-discomfort is the only thing that has you looking at the Beatnik, and you already have a perfectly good Langster, I would just stick with the Langster.

I've test rode the '10 beatnik a couple times at a Lbs, personally it had a more of a comfortable road geometry.
People love or hate MASI.
I purchased the '09 Speciale Fixed in yellow mettalic. I compared the ride with a Beatnik, Langster and felt the Speciale had a stiffer frame. I was skeptical about getting a MASI despite its current reputation of being built in Taiwan, but I was impressed after test riding one. I wouldn't consider the '10 Speciale models because of their outrageous colors and its inflated price. You'll never know how a bike will fit or feel till you test drive one.

So you're saying that they're comparable to every other brand out there right now? All bikes at a given price point are basically the same.
