Mountain Biking - For how much should I sell my bridgestone mountain bike?

I found this mountain bike on craigslist. It was made in 1991 and it's original cost was $500. I bought it for $225, I think. It has new shifters and new brakes - at least they were newly installed when I bought them. I want to sell this bike on craigslist again because I'm done with mountain bikes, and it's frame is too small for me.

I'm wondering what price range I should put it at and how I should advertise that it's not some average mountain bike.

I want to use the money I make to help me buy a new road bike.

Can you post a pic? It would help in assessing the condition of the bike. Then you mite get some suggeations as to price.......:)

Actually, it is an average mtb. You paid 225 for that when? If anytime recent, you overpaid. That was an average lower level of the line bike...back in 1991. Now, it's an old average mtb. Nothing fancy then (or now) in parts spec, nothing particularly rare or sought after in the vintage world.

Now, if it was an old mb-1 or mb-0 in particularly good shape, you might have something, but that appears to be fairly beat down mb-5. Put it up on craigslist.

If everything is in decent working order (not needing money to be reliable around town) I'd say $100 would actually be fairly generous.

I have to agree with the two posters above. $100 would be generous and yes, in life there are still suckers who don't do their homework/research! But if they don't, then buyer beware. That bike is 20 years old and really anything over $50 I would count myself lucky to sell. Good luck and sorry your getting out of the sport, any particular reason why?

You'd get a better appraisal in the classic/vintage forum. For the most part people in this area are knowledgeable in modern bikes. Your bridgestone could be worth $50-$1000 depending on what it is. There should be a stamp on the frame telling you what it is made out of and a model... MB-0 MB-1 MB-2 MB-3..... the lower the number the more it's worth.

It's an old MB-5 and $100 would indeed be generous, $50 might even be generous. $220 would be nuts! Good luck!

Look at the pics. It's a beat down MB-5. IMO, I'd keep it around as a commuter/townie/beater/bar bike.

I'd suggest offering it for a trade on Craigslist. In my opinion, a sixer of High Life would be a generous trade.
