Who the hell is Michael Vandeman?
He seems to be some sort of anti-MTB lunatic:
What a wholly pleasant person (http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk/wiki/Mike_Vandeman) he sounds like.

He's ben posting really odd stuff on the East Bay Bike Coalition list serve lately.
But given the bicycle's susceptibility to potholes etc., I can't see how it's safe to ride much more than 10 MPH, in spite of what some people recommend.

Wow, glad they caught him. I've come across his stuff before, namely this site. (http://home.pacbell.net/mjvande/) Very unpleasant and authoritarian-sounding guy.
(Posting from Vermont, alas.) Holy ish. That guy is a class-A d*ckhe*d. Glad they nabbed him.

Strangely, when I heard that an environmentalist had attacked cyclists with a saw, Vandeman came instantly to mind. For those who aren't aware of him, Mikey Vandeman was one of the great USENET trolls of the nineties and early two thousands, famous (or infamous) for his one person campaign against mountain bicyclists in alt.mountain-bike and other forums.

Vandeman is clearly mentally ill. I hope he now gets the help he needs. And I don't mind if that is in a prison setting.
