Bicycle Mechanics - Pedal twist off Q
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
How hard should it be to twist your cleats off? My looks cleats are so hard to twist off.
I keep mine as tight as possible yet still allowing twist out. It's also a question of technique, a quick twist pops them off much more easily than steady pressure.
It's a personal decision but if you're a spinner you can go with less tension. But if you stand and sprint or climb hard in a high gear you want a solid engagement because unexpected release can cause you to lose control.
There's a release tension screw on the back of the pedal.
Check that your pedals are not jammed up with gunk.
You may also have worn cleats.
