Road Cycling - Confessions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I confess:
...bike color counts. I chose the 2004 Dolce Elite instead of waiting for the 2005, because I liked the color better - dk blues/black as opposed to bright light sky blue/silver.
...I REALLY like buying and wearing bike jerseys, gloves, shorts. Unfortunately for my retirement fund, I live 20 minutes from a Pearl Izumi outlet store.
...I like getting nice smiles and waves from hot guy roadies who are going too fast to see my crows feet and grey hairs. (and visa versa. In lycra and on a bike, they're all handsome)
...I like actually feeling the muscles in my legs instead of just thinking of legs as posts to keep my body off the ground.
...
I have to admit, I got my bike and insisted on the colors too- I think he was making them in a dark blue with light blue background. I got mine with light blue and a dark blue background. I like the baby blue colors, and it really stands out on the street.
I am thinking about my next bike- colors are important for me. They really do help me set my mood, and I'm thinking maybe black with red or something like that.
Of course, who makes the bike and what kind of components run a much higher priority than color if I had to choose between the two options. :D

Yep. I keep my bike inside, propped at the end of my bed. I HAVE to like to look at it, and it entices me to ride!
Sounds a bit weird, but we have to keep the 'nicer' bikes inside, because bike theft can get so bad here. My son's Cannondale is also inside. Our commuter bikes are locked up outside on a rack in our front yard. I don't trust my teenagers and friends not to accidently nick/fall over/bump my bike if I leave it in other parts of the house!

My confession...
I am so picky about my components, I have decided to purchase my next bike as a bare frame, and give it my own custom paint job in the colors I want, with my name on it, and family crest (I shall invent one), hehe.
All components will be pieced together the way I want them, by brand and color, etc.
It will be "MINE", all MINE.
MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I admit that I also keep my bike indoors, though I don't find that odd as keeping your bike outside in the elements is just plain stupid. I did go a little farther than just propping our bikes up though, I bought wall racks for them heh. I've already bought three jerseys (all vintage) and a pair of bibs but I admit I don't feel comfortable wearing the jerseys yet for physical reasons.
And I admit that color is definitely a factor for me when choosing a bike.

The only thing that ticks me off about wearing Lycra is that I go through all this trouble, and hot runner chicks STILL won't turn around and look at my rear! ARG!

Ok, I confess that I had to buy tires with red stripes in them to "go with" the red/grey trim on my black bike; but is sure looks sharp. And yes, I do keep my bike in the house, in the bedroom at night, and in the bathroom in the morning.(I'm single and do whatever I want!) Anyone ever look at themselves while going past a store front window just to see? I didn't say I would ever do that, just curious.
When the sun is behind me off to the side, I stare at my shadow and study my form. That is, until I run into the bus that stopped in front of me....

I confess...
I pretend I'm a Tour de France rider on my BMX bike, 'till I get my road bike in 2 weeks.

I tried to get a 2004 Dolce Comp for the same reason. It is a very rich silver color. Unfortunately they are out of my size. The 2005 model is a candy apple red with silver accents. Perhaps it will be nice as I love red. I wrote to Specialized and asked why they changed the colors since the silver was so hot. They insist that this color combination was preferred by their testers. I hope I feel the same way. They will have a silver Dolce in the model above the Comp but it will be more money and not available until January.
I have my fingers crossed that I will Love the candy apple red!

I ate far too much pie and drank too much beer at RAGBRAI this year!
I admit that I LOVE wearing lycra. Everyone I know is so quick to cover up his or her lycra after group rides. Not me, I go into stores with it on, drive home, grab a bite to eat, and even walk my dog in lycra after a ride. However, I have waited my entire life to have the kind of physique that would allow me not to be self-conscious in tight clothes.
I admit that, when I need an ego boost, I take the bike trail and intentionally pass shirtless mountain bike guys as fast as I can. Extra points if there are girls around.
I admit that I do stare at myself in storefront windows, sometimes changing my route as glass storefronts dictate.
I admit that I am self-conscious about wearing a Phonak jersey while riding a Trek.
Lastly, I admit that my new puppy spent most of teh weekend alone while I was riding. Sorry **** :(

I ride a Tour Easy recumbent.
There! I said it! Thanks so much for starting this thread. I feel like a new man for getting that out in the open.
