There are a handful of us doing some Diablo Repeats tomorrow as early DR training.

We'll be parking and riding from here/near here:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 100 North Gate Road, Walnut Creek, CA.
(I've never been there before, but I think on a Saturday it should be cool.)

The plan is to do 3 trips up, from NG/SG/NG, with a short refuel stop back at the cars after descent 2.

Climb times will be around 70-80 minutes, probably longer on each trip. We'll wait for 10-15 min at the top to regroup, so if your climb time is longer than this, you're welcome to join the party, just know that you might not make it to the top. I suggest climbing as far as you can, and just turning/descending when the main pack comes down. :thumb: If you want to join for 1 or 2 trips, that's fun too.

It will be warm tomorrow; we're starting early.

Meet @ 8:00am, roll-out by 8:15 am.

I'll be pre-riding the HillClimb course hard, and then sitting up the rest of the day. If you've never summited Diablo 3x in 1 day,I recommend it. It's hard.

Cross street is Doncaster and there's some shady on-street parking. You'll probably blow by me somewhere near the bump.

I had a sore throat this morning but if I'm feeling ok tomorrow I'll be there. I need some heat training for the death valley stage race.

If you going to the top, I'll go as far as I could until I see you guys descend, then make a U.

Going to try and make it with Ruth on the tandem.

Just two summits for us though.

If we can't make it that early, we plan to do OLH/W84/Tunitas/Skyline/92. Either way, we're back!

You could meet us at the South Gate at like 9:30 for 2 summits... no chance you'll make 8:15 start.

Actually we need to finish early. So it would be our goal to start early and do the first two. If we are going to miss the start, than we stay local and get out the door and riding as soon as we are ready.

Hopefully you'll do this ride another time too. I need to back home early for family activities. When kids are in full summer vacation mode, I'll likely be able to make longer Saturday rides.

Pragmatism is my strong point. Case in point, today.

So I pre-rode the TT course for next week. I scored a 31:30, with 312w (4.1w/kg) over that time. I don't think I'll be able to hit 30:00m in 1 week, but maybe 31.

The 2nd half of first ascent I rode with Eric, summited in 69min, including the few minutes I took to recover from the TT effort at the Junction.

2nd repeat I stuck to Eric again, but it got tough towards the top. 65min from the South Gate.

3rd repeat I tried to pace Eric, and did so for maybe 2/3 of the ride. At that point I completely bonked. My feet were killing me, so I took that excuse to sit in the shade for a few minutes. I eventually got going when Donald came by, but I totally limped the final 3rd. Time from North Gate was 94 minutes, yikes.

We got Subway after the ride. I had 2 giant sodas and a sandwhich. Got home and I weighed 164lbs. 6.5 lbs less than when the ride began. Kind of explains the bonk.

In the end, 4 of us did all 3 repeats. Donald, Ramon, Eric and me. Go team.

A good warmup and an easy day or two before the race, plus it being a race, ought to be worth some time.

Your data shows why we were slower the last time up- the mountain got taller.

I forgot to put sunscreen on my forehead. So when I go to work monday the sunburn through the helmet will make it look like I have been at a weekend devil worship retreat.
Hail Satan!

I definitely noticed the tan lines on your forehead at the end, but thought they might be season-long.

Also, definitely noticed the increased height of the Mt. Added 30 minutes for an additional 90ft though.

I saw Ramon a couple of times and Ron once. Weren't those flying earwigs up at the summit vile? I didn't know earwigs could fly. Gah.

My second time up at the summit, *much* later in the afternoon, it had cooled off considerably and there were no annoying swarming wretched insects. It was really nice up there then.

Nice job all! I thought my ride today was hard but the thought of Diablo repeats seems even worse! Chris, I think you have 30 minutes in the bag. You can always go faster in an actual race with rabbits to chase down. Plus ditch the pump, seat bag, and second water bottle and you'll be 5 pounds lighter.

Did anyone else see the coyote going up from the south gate side? Made me slow down my climb (which was a little bit of a welcome). Wanted to give him as much space as he needed.

My husband saw it. Lee was in the car at the time.

We'll see. HR was redlined, dunno how much more I could push it. Regardless, I've made a lot of progress this year. I'll do my best, but it is what it is.

Each lb I can leave behind = about 10 seconds. Might ride naked.

LOL, flying earwigs. They are there in incredible numbers this time of year. Last year when I hiked the summit, they were even worse on top of the summit building. I have video of them, and it still creeps me out watching it.

I'm planning on hitting the summit this evening, I hope they die down later in the afternoon!

31:30 is a great time. That would be faster than probably anyone else on the mountain at any given time. Unfortunately, all the best climbers around here will be on the mountain on ITT day...

If you were really pushing it, don't know if you can knock off 1:30 in a week, but a triple summit ride will definitely improve your climbing!

Aside from a bit better pacing at the start, and shedding some food/gear/water weight, I will be hard pressed to put up a better effort.
